Week 3 (12/09/2016 – 18/09/2016) – Citrus
The last few mornings have been awfully cold. It almost felt like snow would be on the way and we’d have another “Snowtember” event this year. It made me realise just how fleeting the summer season is in Calgary. Soon enough, we’ll be back in winter’s icy grip.
This year is especially tough because of a lack of really great, sunny summer days, as we’ve been plagued with too many thunderstorms to count. I’m more of an autumn gal myself, but even I have been missing a good stretch of nice weather. This week’s theme is all about trying to extend that summery feeling with an infusion of crisp, refreshing citrus.
Using a pattern on one of my most used Tupperware cups, I drew these citrus slices using my new favourite and recently rediscovered toy, the Wacom tablet. Colours were chosen to evoke a representation of oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits. I like the overall simplicity and pops of colour, with the blue waves in the background adding to the refreshment theme and flow of the pattern.
