open water

I’ve always been attracted to open bodies of water stretching out onto a seemingly endless horizon.  The sheer openness, the crisp air (often scented with that undeniable “ocean” smell), the roaring of the waves, even the squawking of seagulls… it all evokes a feeling of peace deep inside.  It’s natural, then, that when I meditate, I imagine myself standing at the shore of a beautiful sunlit beach, with miles of sand stretched out on both sides.  I’m the only one there and it’s perfect; it’s my sanctuary, my place away from the world where I’m able to be alone with my thoughts.
